30 years of building experience contributes to my own home -
our Jewel in the Crown.

After purchasing a larger block with magnificent northerly views I went about designing a modern contemporary home -
to suit the steep sloping site.

One of my wife’s requests was to give our sons their own space, so I designed a 3 split level design with their
area at the back and the main master, living area on the middle level and garage, cellar/store on the lower level.

A phone call to a my draftsman soon had the ball rolling, 6 weeks later plans were done and after a couple
of changes I was able to do a feasibility costings knowing all too well that many thing were likely to change.

Being the Owner/ Builder I tried to modulate the design to make it easier to construct and have less waste.
In total there was 8m3 of waste removed from the site which saved time and money.
The uses of rendered Hebel panels on the external walls and Hebel power floor were used,
along with spray foam polyurethane insulation in the walls and ceilings to make the home thermally efficient.
This along with hydronic floor heating makes the home extremely comfortable and energy efficient.
Core filled block work on the internal walls of the middle level were used to give thermal mass to the inside walls.
An internal courtyard was also incorporated to give light and also aid in the cross flow ventilation
of the middle of the house.
Matrix panels were used on the façade to give a contemporary modern look.

My wife has an uncanny way of sourcing quality fixtures and products well below retail price,
this along with her excellent styling and interior designing skill have produced a magnificently
well-presented home, and no attention to detail has been spared.

Huge commercial double glazed tinted windows were used to capture the awesome views, a surface polish
of the concrete was the finish applied on the floor, and the ceiling of the alfresco was timber lined.
Quality porcelain tiles were used throughout.
The kitchen is finished in custom Ceasarstone and thermo laminate board along with feature joinery items.
The single steel stringer stairs in the stair wells form a feature with the glass balustrading.
